I Spent 40 Hours Reverse-Engineering Justin Welsh Growth – What I Discovered Will Change How You Do Content
I spent 40 hours reverse-engineering how Justin Welsh is making $1.8 million per year, growing LinkedIn Twitter 160k newsletter. I have discovered a 5-step process he used that changed everything for him and how you can apply same strategies.
01 |
🧠 How it Started
1/ Justin knew he wanted to make content but didn’t know where
2/ He realized that people were killing it on twitter, but no one did similar content on LinkedIn
💡 How you can do this:
- Content exists on all the platforms, but not different content types.
- take concepts from one platform and create that type content on another platform where it doesn’t exist yet.

🤫 His 10-Step Content System
Step 1
- Every Wednesday he dedicates an hour to ideation
- He goes through resources and creates an Ideation bank
Step 2
- He finds anything that supports what he is writing about: Tweets, quotes, books, articles. etc.
Step 3
- He uses a specific model to write his newsletter:
✅ what is the problem,
✅ how people approach it wrong
✅ what is his better solution
Step 4
- He checks if everything is concise, add visuals, link resources
Step 5: Pre-newsletter CTA
- He writes a piece of content to tease the upcoming newsletter
Step 6: Post newsletter CTA
- He writes a piece of content to inform that he has now published that newsletter
Step 7: Writing Content
- He has 6 different types of content pieces that he produces from this newsletter: Story, observation, contrarian take, listicle and present vs future
Step 8: Thread 🧵
- He trims off the fat and turns the newsletter into a twitter thread
Step 9: LinkedIn Carousel
- Thread ➡️ LinkedIn carousel
Step 10: Publishing
- He Publishes content weekly to avoid repeating the same content.
🤫 How he creates content easily
- He finds successful content from others and replicates it.
- He creates templates from tweets and stores them in a template bank.
- Offers a course detailing his content system (great value for money).
- Posts consistently—up to 1,200 tweets per month, including replies.
- Reposts the same content with minor tweaks, often leading to top-performing posts.

📇 His Unique Content Approach
♟️Unique Strategy
- Justin’s content may seem typical but is strategically crafted.
- His newsletter claims to take 4 minutes to read, though it often feels longer.
- The “4-minute” claim makes the content seem easy to consume.
✍️ Emotions in Writing
- Uses a “wheel of emotions” to ensure his content evokes feelings.
- Reads each piece and rewrites it if it doesn’t provoke emotion.
🔗Using Links
- Shares tweets with external links to articles about him.
- Uses these articles as social proof.
🗎 Testimonials
- Creates 105 unique content pieces monthly, including 8–10 testimonials.
- Testimonials boost daily sales from $3,500–$4,500 to $10,000.

♟️Strategy for Selling Courses
- Justin uses a unique strategy to sell his course, boosting his earnings.
- Unlike most courses priced at $500–$5,000, his is $150.
- Adjusts pricing based on the buyer’s country.
He does this for 2 reasons:
- He wants his course to be more of an ‘quasi-impulse buy’
- He wants more people to take it, to have more people talking about him and his course.
📌 Affiliate Strategy
- Offers a 30% commission affiliate program.
- Built a network of 3,000 affiliates promoting his course.
- Affiliates generate $300k annually, 23% of total course sales.
